Guimbardes

Some of my Jew's harps, made of wood, bamboo, bronze, metal. Kalimbas are metal-tined Instruments which originated in southern Africa and which can be found there in countless variations. Our Kalimba B11 'Melody' is made of solid American block cherry wood and meticulously hand-crafted. The surfaces are treated and polished with natural oils and waxes. The 11 tines are precisely tuned to the scale of G-Major, so that a large number of well-known songs can be played. The 'Melody' is also ideal for improvisation and intuitive playing.
Coffee houses have also been springing up all over Yakutsk. These generally offer various types of coffee and tea and usually some pastries. Some offer a somewhat more expansive food menu. Good coffee and tea is available in most of these. The food items can vary a lot, but are generally ok, especially the cakes and desert items.
For contemporary composers, musicians, and eco-theorists seeking to embody landscape and nature in our own musical traditions, several parallels between our work and the Tuvan and Mongolian traditions become apparent. The creativity, inspiration, and purpose of both kinds of music are the natural results of time spent in place. Places where the human is dwarfed in scale, where we are somehow in awe and humbled. While in the great mountains and forest, deserts, tundras, and natural areas where we, as composers, may seek our respite and muse, we are brought into relation. We revel in the reminder that it is here, in the landscape, where our culture, our aspirations, and dreams are made and contained. It is transferring this sense of reverence, mediating it through sound and music and experience, that we find close company with these arguably ancient traditions. Music often functions as a translation of experience, and the Tuvan sketch of nature” is an embodiment of this translation.
The jaw harp, also known as the Jew's harp, has attained a legacy status. It's one of the oldest instruments in the world, pictured in a Chinese painting from the 4th Century BCE. Before getting sucked into the jaw harp YouTube vortex for hours on end, I thought it was solely a Southern instrument based on its twangy sound and its associated genres. Boy was I wrong. This instrument has been played all over the world and figures into many cultures: Sicilian, Pakistani, Indian, and Lithuanian, as demonstrated these two talented monks giving a TEDx Talk.
In the last 15 years the jaw harp has gained enormous momentum. It is more present in the public as it's being recognized as a music instrument and developed further. Globally festivals emerged, time and again young musicians appear in the scene, new jaw harp smiths have started to sell high quality instruments, and books are being dedicated to the very subject. In England, the Wright family are seen by many as the experts, when it comes to jaw harps. John Wright was an ambassador and expert for the instrument until his death a few years ago. His brother Michael Wright just recently published a book about jaw harps in Great Britain and Ireland. Jonny Cope has been an active player for the last decade and added another hotspot for jews harps to the island.
The self-titled debut album is a tour de force in retro-tinged, organic played vintage sounds that take you right back to the late 60's where British band Earth transformed into its latter and more known constellation. At play on Sleepwulf's debut are blues-rooted, doom-flavored, riff-based rock of the absolute highest order. Musicianship on par with the contemporary scene's greats such as Dunbarrow, Graveyard, Asteroid, Burning Saviours, Clan, Demon Head, Doublestone. In fact, we have little trouble comparing the quality of Sleepwulf's debut album with Witchcraft's ‘Alchemist' album. Yup, it's that good.
Whereas the basic Sansula model is too delicate for use by small children, the Sansula Deluxe can be used in nurseries and music schools without fear of the instrument being easily damaged. The Sansula Deluxe must, however, be handled with the same reasonable care as all musical instruments. The tuning - a-minor with additional tines pitched at B and F - allows wonderful melodies to be produced almost of their own accord, simply by plucking the tines with the thumbs. As all the notes harmonize with each other, beginners also enjoy immediate success with their instrument.
The short answer is that Air Features was the name that two of the most important and powerful people in the radio industry came up with for their incorporation papers. From about 1930 till 1950, these two people, Frank and Anne Hummert, produced, directed and controlled 135 radio programs of every kind imaginable. Soap operas, which they essentially invented, were their bread and butter as far as most of the public knew, but they also produced and aired cooking shows, detective shows, kids' shows, game shows, and of course musical programs.
Had a big fun exploring village. A lot of small details created with love from people who are working there. Seems at summer time there are a lot more things to do. Winter time has painted all the surroundings by snow, and children did snowfight on the playground, where are wooden towers, walls, and even ancient boat. Later we found animals (hares and sheep), and feeded all of them. Place is must see and visit with young kids. Great day and memories.
The resonance chambers of mouth and chest of the player can amplifie a certain range of frequencies, irrespective of the fundamental note of the Jew's Harp. This range of tones that can be played is certainly different for each individual player. In her monograph on the Jew's Harp, Regina Plate states that the pitches that can be played range from 500 to 2000 Hz, corresponding to two octaves. In my experience tones with a frequency of up to ca. 2300 Hz can be played. The altered resonance functioning at closed voice chink allows to play tones as deep as about 250 Hz. E.g., the tones heard in sound sample 11 range from 294 to 784 Hz.
